What you can Teach
PADI’s Professional-Level Courses

Are you ready to transform your life?

You’ve been a scuba diver for over six months, you may have already attained the Master Scuba Diver rating (although it's not a requirement), and treated yourself to several fun-filled scuba diving holidays - but something’s still missing. Then one day you realise that you not only want to participate in scuba diving, but you want to teach the sport you have come to love.

Divemaster Training:

The first stage in your professional diving career is the PADI Divemaster course.  The course will develop your diving skills to demonstration quality and expand your theory knowledge to instructor level.  It will also teach you how to assist with student divers and guide certified divers.  As a Divemaster, you will also be able to independently teach some snorkelling and scuba diving programmes, and enrol onto some Specialty Instructor courses.  For more information on becoming a Divemaster with Manta Divers, click here.

Instructor Training Preparation Course:

Both the Assistant Instructor and the Open Water Scuba Instructor courses expect you to have Instructor level theory knowledge and Demonstration Quality diving skills. There is not enough time during these courses (or on an IDC) to remediate. If you are not sure of your theory knowledge or your practical diving skills you can arrange an IDC preparation course through Manta Divers

Instructor Training:

For those looking to continue their professional diving career beyond Divemaster, the next step is becoming a PADI Instructor.  To do this, you either have to complete the Assistant Instructor (AI) course followed by the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) course, or do both in one combined course, the Instructor Development Course (IDC).

The AI and OWSI (or IDC) courses have to completed with a PADI 5 Star or 5 Star IDC centre.  Although Manta Divers does not at present hold this rating and therefore cannot run these courses in our own name, our resident PADI Course Director, Carl Yates, runs these courses for Andark Diving & Watersports, a PADI 5 Star IDC centre, and you would be welcome to complete these courses with him there.

For more information on the Assistant Instructor course, click here, and for the Open Water Scuba Instructor course, click here.  Alternatively, contact PADI Course Director Carl Yates to discuss this and we can then see how to progress your instructor training on one of the Instructor programmes run by our associated dive centres.

Prior to attending the Instructor Exam after you have completed the OWSI or IDC, you will also need to have achieved the Emergency First Response Instructor (EFRI) rating.  You can do this at any stage of your training, either before or after your AI/OWSI or IDC and Divemasters can therefore also teach EFR on completion of this course.  For more information on becoming an EFR Instructor with Manta Divers, click here.

Instructor-Level Continuing Education:

At Manta Divers, we also offer Specialty Instructor courses for those wishing to progress their instructor qualification from Open Water Scuba Instructor rating to Master Scuba Diver Trainer and teach a wider variety of courses.  And for those wanting to go even further, we can also offer you IDC Staff Instructor.
